Neighborhood United for Washington Park
Mission:
Our purpose is to stage events (concerts, Dog Day, neighborhood related events) to reengage the residents to visit and use Washington Park. We lobby and raise money through events and fundraisers for park enhancements and work with our corporate partners to restore park historical elements (Blatz Band Shell). We work along with the Parks Department to ensure that this park is recognized for the value it brings Milwaukee County.
Vision:
*
Clean and restore (original footprint) waterways
*
Trim century old trees
*
Repair pedestrian pathways
*
Better signage & more visual park entryways
*
Repair sports fields and manage team schedules
*
Repair parking lot (east side)
*

Events:
Washington “Bark Dog Day” (August)
We also make sure to have a presence at every Band Shell concert; Jazz, Symphony, Gospel and others, to engage attendees to our cause. We are a completely volunteer group that relies on the work of our surrounding neighborhood residents (Washington Heights, Washington Park, Sherman Park, Walnut Hill and Martin Drive) We attend neighborhood town hall meetings, hand out literature, work with Supervisors (DeBruin and Holloway) and write articles for our local community papers and newsletters. We have testified before the County Board, Finance Committee and other political forums for public discourse!
Needs:
*
Marketing outside of our own neighborhoods
*
Volunteers
*
Funding that would help offset Park permit fees etc.
